Wood slicer vs timberwolf. I used the 12 inch as 3tpi 32 in blade which they say is good for thick green wood and i could barely cut anything with it. For the wood slicer blade i could only find it being sold by highland woodworker. Highland hardwares wood slicer is a unique blade among our picks. Our legendary wood slicer bandsaw blade for resawing was selected as best all round performing resaw bandsaw blade by fine woodworking 2004.
Ive heard good things about both the woodslicer as well as the timberwolf. I plan on doing quite a bit of resawing on soft stuff aspen but also have quite a bit of oak to put on a diet. Ive been having trouble getting a good cut with it from day one. Part of the reason is the wood slicers unique variable tpi design.
I thought i would buy one of each and compare the results. I used timberwolf blades for a long time and was very happy with them. Ill look at the mk morse blade as well as the wood slicer. Could that be a problem.
Reduced vibration also results in reduced noise. Im running the 14 jet wriser and no other mods. So ive been doing a bit of resawing but its been with a fairly cheap blade. The first step is giving your bandsaw a good tune up to set the table perpendicular to the blade get peak performance from the guides and ensure the blade tracks true.
Im looking for a decent blade that will resaw. I still think they are good blades. Super sharp thin kerf precision resawing blades cut quieter and smoother and the quality of cut is simply fabulous. It made extra smooth cuts with less noise.
The only issue was that the timber wolf blade had some light rust on it. I learned a lot of lessons back then about how to make any bandsaw and its owner a cant miss resawing team. Now it is time to find good blades for resaw. I found that the correct speed is to push them through fairly.
If you push the wood through at the correct speed there are hardly any discernable cut marks. The tpi varies from three to four which helps reduce vibration and produces a smoother cut. But then i tried woodslicer blades and they really are a step up in smoothness. A test to determine which blade is better for re sawing.
I consider it a waste of money but there is nothing i can do about it now. I bought a timberwolf 14 4 tpi and its stinks. Are one of the above my best choices or are there others equally as good. I can barely cut a piece of 6 cherry.
