Will a south bend 10l heavy 10 with d1 4 spindle and 3 12 bed be good for barrel work and general gunsmithing. Machine runs great and all mechanical surfaces are in great condition. Packed with features and refinements usually found only on much larger more expensive machines this gear head lathe is versatile and heavy enough to do a wide variety of jobs yet light enough to be quick and responsive to the operator.

Ok i have posted this in the gunsmithing forum and have no responses.

South bend heavy 10 gunsmithing. As the lathe turns south bend heavy 10 restoration part 2 duration. Since most of this work can be done thru the headstock is bed length that needed. I was wondering what guys were using as barrel spiders on their south bend heavy 10. Very nice south bend heavy 10 with 3 12 foot flame hard bed and d1 4 spindle.

Although gunsmith barrel work and other related work can be done reliably on a south bend heavy 10 it is difficult to find a maximum length bed heavy 10 45 feet bed it appears that 5 foot bed was not made for heavy 10 even though advertised that is in excellent condition. I know a 4 12 bed would work great but the shorter beds are easier to find.
