Mdf Grades Differences

There are different types of wood classified depending on how they were manufactured their strength and usage.

I have used the premium mdf from lowes in the past because they are much closer than central hardwood but i have now switched to strictly buying the double refined mdf from central hardwoods. The double refined plum creek mdf is superior to any other mdf from hd or lowes even though hd and lowes advertise their mdf as premium.

Im not an expert on mdf although have used quite a bit of it. The high density mdf has much more wood fibres packed into it. There are different grades of mdf to suit different applications and one of the key differentiating factors is the density of the mdf. Lightweight mdf is the same as standard however it is lighter is weight and is slightly weaker than the standard grade mdf. Biggest concerns i have with mdf is the formaldehyde glues used in it.
