It may interest you to know that the matter of whether polymer clay is food safe is also a matter of much debate. But leave the polymer clay off of the food contact region. I know sculpey is not recommended for food stuffs due to it being porous but im wondering if it can be used with a glazeepoxy that would make it safe to drink from.
Go ahead and make big chunky handles for childrens cutlery. Air dry clays are safe for foods but all will need to be sealed if moistwet stuff will be sitting in them or next to them and the usual clear finishes that can seal them wont necessarily be safe themselves for all foods.
