Can you paint over shellac with normal polish. Elle did say that you could go back to the salon the next day to get the clear gel cured on top of your polish not exactly a practical solution or use an at home gel kit but weve never tried. Although i have heard about some people successfully experimenting with the shellac sandwich which entails shellac uv top and base coats with a regular nail polish of choice in between. Ive seen lots of questions on facebook about it and thought id conduct my own little experiment so you can see the difference between regular polish vs shellac. I cannot say wether or not this will work with all gel systems i just know that it works with my gelast by paris.
Anyway i have a question that a client posed to me today. She said that she really struggled to lay down the polish nicely and that it took a few coats. Usually the gel polish is super smooth so it makes for a great base to any regular nail polish color. I had applied a french shellac on her and after around ten days she decided to paint over it using regular nail polish to change the colour.
You can use any nail polish you wish. If you want to combine regular nail polish with gel its best to seal in the polish with a gel topcoat rather than putting the polish on top of the gel. If like me you are planning on using regular nail polish as your shellac color apply a layer of top coat to your nails after you have let the base coat sit for 10 seconds under the lamp. Changing the color is super easy remover without.
I put a clear base and cure it then use one of my polishes. If you are planning on using uv gel polish to add color skip this step. You can either use a layer of polish with a topcoat over it or apply a gel basecoat layer on the polish and seal it all in with a gel topcoat. Gel nail polish will last longer and dry a lot faster though.
I do that often because of ridges. I recently had asphalt on fabulous dark grey after about four days i painted a regular polish translucent pearl shimmer which turned the asphalt blue then a few days later a silver glitter on top of that then a few days later removed with non acetone remover and back to perfect asphalt. Polish away i do it all the time glitter on top of masquerade would be lovely.
