Brazing holes in sheet metal. The equipment in this project can be bought for as little as 30 dollars. In this episode justin the fabricator shows you a few techniques on bridging gaps and filling holes on an old worn out harley exhaust pipe. Patching sheet metal holes using low temp solder. Brazing is similar to soldering but at higher temperatures.
Heres a few tips on repairing rust holes in car body panels. Brazing is a technique for joining pieces of metal together by filling the join between the two metal pieces with a molten intermediary metal. A small piece sheet metal can be brazed in place to cover larger holes. Use a torch that produces a high intensity flame.
Brazed metal can also be stronger then. Recommended rods by metal type. Brazing is also much easier then welding its a lot like using a glue gun. Use the right brazing rod material for the metal used in your project.
If the hole is very small the material you are brazing with should fill it. Brazing is distinguished from welding because it uses an intermediary material usually a copper zinc alloy to join the two metal pieces rather than melting the pieces. And with mig welding you risk blowing out more metal than you fill plus the weld can be as hard as a rock. In this video im showing you the process i use to do small rust repairs where a complete panel is not needed.
Quick and easy brazing aluminum copper and nonferrous metals. They have replaced sheet metal where it mattered a lot of it in fact and theyve been brazing pinholes where the structural strength of the panels wasnt compromised but had some small holes nevertheless or where the complexity of the panel fit would be cost prohibitive. Im told brazing pinholes after media blasting is nearly as robust as cutting out the rot shaping and welding in new sheet metal but only half as time consuming as in expensive but only in areas that dont show. The brazing rod should be melted by the heat of the metal pieces being joined not by direct contact with the flame of the torch.
Brazing is a quick and inexpensive alternative to welding.
